Die verschiedenen betriebswirtschaftlichen "Schulen", die sich mit der Konzeptualisierung von Organisations- und Managementtheorien befassen, erweisen sich hinsichtlich der Betrachtung organisatorischer Veränderungsprozesse und Komplexitätsphänomene als zu eng. Dies ist nicht nur auf die primär ökonomische Perspektive dieser Ansätze, sondern auch auf ihre "monokontextuale" Perspektive zurückzuführen. Martin Hahmann diskutiert system- und handlungsorientierte sowie strukturale Theorien aus den Sozialwissenschaften im Hinblick auf ihre Konzeptionalisierungspotenziale für die Organisations- und Managementlehre. Hierzu werden Konvergenzen und Divergenzen der neueren soziologischen Systemtheorie (Luhmann), der Strukturationstheorie (Giddens) sowie aus Ansätzen des sogenannten Poststrukturalismus (Lyotard, Derrida) herausgearbeitet.
