Inzwischen gilt es als eines der Hauptwerke der romantischen Celloliteratur, Schumanns Cellokonzert a-Moll op. 129, das er unmittelbar vor seinem Zusammenbruch komponierte. Bei den Zeitgenossen galt es als unverständlich, inzwischen hat es sich neben anderen Konzerten wie etwa dem Cellokonzert von Dvorák etabliert. Der Interpret dieser Aufnahme, Gautier Capuçon, wird begleitet vom Chamber Orchestra of Europe unter Bernard Haitink. Er ergänzt seine Einspielung mit Cello-Kammermusik Schumanns, dem Adagio und Allegro op. 70, den Fantasiestücken op. 73, den fünf Stücken im Volkston op. 102 und den Fantasiestücken op. 88. Wichtiges Repertoire mit Starbesetzung zu Ehren Schumanns, sehr gerne empfohlen.
