Die leicht korrigierte Fassung einer bereits 1995 in deutscher Übersetzung erstmals veröffentlichten Kurzgeschichte (in dem Sammelband "Der Elefant verschwindet", zuletzt BA 12/07) erzählt von einem Überfall auf eine Bäckerei durch den Ich-Erzähler und einen Freund. Der Bäckermeister gab den beiden freiwillig Brot, solange sie sich Wagner anhörten. Doch bei aller Freundlichkeit verfluchte der Bäcker die Täter. Jahre später soll der alte Fluch dadurch überwunden werden, dass der Ich-Erzähler und seine Frau eine andere Bäckerei überfallen. Doch in der Nacht gibt es keine offenen Bäckereien und so überfallen die beiden ein McDonalds-Restaurant und fordern zur Überraschung der Angestellten die Herausgabe von 30 Hamburgern. Die absurd-groteske Geschichte dürfte Murakami-Freunde ansprechen. Kat Menschik hat sie erneut kongenial mit zahlreichen flächig gemalten Bildern im Pop-Art-Stil illustriert (vgl. "Schlaf", BA 11/09). Die Kombination von Text und Bild ergibt ein stimmiges Ganzes, das bei der großen Fangemeinde gut ankommen sollte. Breit empfohlen, auch für Murakami-Einsteiger.
