Akio, Tomoko, Daisuke and Ai are music-majors at a university of the arts. In the summer of their senior year, by request of their music professor, they form a string quartet to compete in a prestigious ensemble contest. However, their performance turns out to be disastrous due to a series of unexpected stage accidents and the quartet splits up upon graduation. Three years later, the four musicians run into one another at an audition for a famed orchestra where they decide to reform their quartet to compete once again in an ensemble. Since they are not equal in their levels of talent and technique, they face difficulty trying to get the ensemble to work together. After experiencing struggles and conflicts, a real bond begins to form as they spend a lot of time together traveling and performing at gigs throughout Japan. On the day of the competition, however, as the time for the quartet's performance draws near, Akio does not show up. Akio receives an offer to play in a famous orchestra. Akio's public debut performance with this orchestra falls on the same day and time as the ensemble. Akio has to make a choice - should he choose fame over friendship?
