Viele Kindersachbücher beschäftigen sich mit Tierkindern - meist recht niedlich bebildert. Ausgezeichnete Fotos findet man auch hier, allerdings liegt der Schwerpunkt in diesem Titel auf der Entstehung des Lebens. Und das hebt ihn von der Masse ab. Angefangen bei den unterschiedlichen Varianten der Balz über die Arten der Partnerschaften (Monogamie, Polygamie) bis hin zum Heranwachsen der befruchteten Eizellen (im Bauch, im Beutel, im Ei etc.), behandelt das Buch darüberhinaus die unterschiedlichen Geburtsarten, die ersten Tage und die Adoleszenz der Tiere. Je ein Haupttext, kurze Textblöcke und Bildunterschriften ermöglichen auch schon Erstlesern die selbstständige Lektüre. Ein Glossar am Ende erklärt schwierige Begriffe, die im Text mit Sternchen versehen sind. Leider bleiben für Kinder immer noch viele Wörter rätselhaft: Warum z.B. wird "Dotter" erklärt, "Plazenta" dagegen nicht? Der Titel überzeugt jedoch trotzdem - sowohl inhaltlich als auch durch die gute optische Aufmachung und die tollen Fotos. Vergleichbar mit "Tierkinder". Wegen des o.g.
