Wie der Erhalt, ja die Verbesserung von Biodiversität und Artenvielfalt funktionieren kann zeigt beispielhaft die Heinz-Sielmann-Stiftung, die auf den 2006 verstorbenen Tierfilmer und Publizisten Sielmann zurückgeht. In Brandenburg konnte die Stiftung 12.000 Hektar Fläche für den Naturschutz sichern und zwar die Döberitzer Heide, die Kyritz-Ruppiner Heide, die Tangersdorfer Heide, die Groß Schauener Seen und die Bergbaufolgelandschaft Wanninchen. Was sich dort in der Heide-, Sand- und Seenlandschaft unter sachkundiger Betreuung an Pflanzen und Tieren angesiedelt hat, verdient allerhöchsten Respekt, wie die sieben Autoren hier zeigen. Nach der Vorstellung der Gebiete, mehrheitlich ehemalige Truppenübungsplätze, stellen sie die Pflanzen, Pilze und Moose sowie die kleinere und größere Tierwelt mit Krebsen, Spinnen, Bienen, Wespen, Schmetterlingen, Käfern, Heuschrecken, Amphibien, Reptilien, Vögeln, Wisenten, Wildpferden und Wölfen vor. Ein reich bebildertes Werk, das zeigt, was möglich ist und beispielhaft für andere Vorhaben sein kann. Für Naturschützer und Politiker nachdrücklich zu empfehlen.
