Der Journalist J. Heldt, geboren 1965, war über eine Strecke von 33.726 km von August 2008 bis Juli 2010 mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs. Von Süddeutschland über Frankreich/Spanien führte seine Route durch 24 afrikanische Staaten bis nach Südafrika und wieder nördlich bis Tansania. Eine Kilimandscharo-Besteigung rundete seine beeindruckende Leistung ab. Die Route westlich der Sahara gilt als anspruchsvoll und gefährlich, da sie durch politisch unsichere Staaten wie z.B. Mauretanien, Senegal, Sierra Leone oder die Demokratische Republik Kongo führt. Held beschreibt sehr sympathisch nicht nur die Strapazen, sondern vor allem die Begegnungen mit den Menschen, ihre ansteckende Lebensfreude trotz schwieriger Lebensbedingungen, ihre Begeisterung für Musik, ihre Neugier, ihre Nachdenklichkeit und manchmal auch Aufdringlichkeit. Er verklärt Afrika nicht und beschönigt im Nachhinein nicht Gefahren, aus denen er zum Glück unbeschadet hervorging. Jedem Land ist ein Kapitel gewidmet, dazwischen viele Fotos und Karten mit seiner Route. Ebenso gerne empfohlen wie P. Watson: "Der Traum von Afrika" (BA 10/02). (2)
