Die meisten kennen Wols als Zeichner und Maler, die wenigsten wissen um sein fotografisches Werk. Das Kupferstich-Kabinett der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden ist dabei, dies zu ändern. Sie richtet dem Fotografen, Maler und Grafiker Wols (1913–1951) unter dem Titel Wols Photograph. Der gerettete Blick eine Ausstellung aus und würdigt ihn anlässlich seines 100. Geburtstags als „Schlüsselfigur der Nachkriegsmoderne“. Wolfgang Schulze, alias Wols, ging 1932 nach Paris, wo sich zu der Zeit Europas Avantgarde traf, und schuf zwischen 1932 und 1937 sein komplettes fotografisches Werk. Bis zu seinem frühen Tod 1951 sollte sich Wols nicht wieder der Fotografie zuwenden. Das Dresdner Kupferstich-Kabinett bestreitet die Ausstellung aus eigenen Beständen: Hier befindet sich der Nachlass der Schwester des Künstlers, Elfriede Schulze-Battmann, mit rund 1.000 Fotografien von Wols. Weitere Stationen der Ausstellung werden Berlin (Martin-Gropius-Bau, ab März 2014) und Paris (ab Herbst 2014) sein
