From publisher's website: Das Bayerische Konkordat von 1817/21 ist ein staatskirchenrechtliches Denkmal. Mit ihm wurde erstmals nach der Französischen Revolution und dem Untergang des Heiligen Römischen Reiches 1806 das Verhältnis von Staat und Kirche auf deutschem Boden neu bestimmt. Die Arbeit zeigt, wie der Vertrag in der Profan-, Rechts- und Kirchengeschichte tief verwurzelt ist. Die langwierigen Verhandlungen werden anhand von Originaldokumenten nachgezeichnet. Dabei werden auch die Akteure der Verhandlungen vorgestellt und geistesgeschichtliche Wandlungsprozesse berücksichtigt. Die Konkordatsbestimmungen werden in ihrem Gehalt und ihrer Bedeutung für das Staat-Kirche-Verhältnis analysiert. Schliesslich wird ein Ausblick auf die Wirkungsgeschichte des Vertrags gegeben. Mit dem Konkordat wurde die Struktur der Kirche in Bayern neu bestimmt und ein kooperatives Verhältnis von Staat und Kirche grundgelegt, das bis heute besteht
