Im Gegensatz zur "stationären" Lösung, die man mit Hilfe der klassischen Netzwerkanalyse unter Benutzung des j-Operators erhält, gestattet die Theorie der Laplace-Transformation eine vollständige Analyse von Problemen in elektronischen Schaltungen. Der Leser möge sich in Erinnerung rufen, daß die Ausdrücke "induktive Reaktanz" und "kapazitive Reaktanz" nur dann einen Sinn haben, wenn wir von einer strikt sinusförmigen Erregung sprechen. Sie bleiben sinnlos, wenn wir es mit einer der vielen anderen heute benützten Schwingungsformen zu tun haben. Daraus ist ersichtlich, wie notwendig es ist, zumindest eine gewisse Spanne Zeit dem Studium allgemeiner Methoden und Denkwege zu widmen. Die LaplaceTransformation ist eine allgemeine Methode. Sie gestattet, Netzwerke zu analysieren, in denen beliebige Schwingungsformen auftreten. Würde man die Darstellung mit der Ableitung des Laplace-Integrals beginnen, so müßte man eine gute Kenntnis der Funktionentheorie voraussetzen. Das würde jedoch das Buch einer großen Anzahl von Fachingenieuren unzugänglich machen, die nach Empfang ihres ersten Diploms in die Elektronikindustrie eingetreten sind, die aber keine Gelegenheit gehabt haben, sich durch den Besuch einer Vorlesung über Funktionentheorie eine entsprechende Grundlage zu schaffen. Der Verfasser hat es daher vorgezogen, das Buch mit einem kurzen Überblick über die Funktionentheorie zu beginnen, soweit sie bei der Laplace-Transformation Anwendung findet
