Die Geschichten um die Familie Baumann, die im Wirtschaftswunder-Deutschland einen eigenen Friseursalon eröffnet, bildeten die Rahmenhandlung für eine 90-minütige Show, die noch viele andere Elemente enthielt: Dokumentation, Revue, Musik und Sketche, verbunden und kommentiert durch Gerd Vespermann als Erzähler. Außerdem mit dabei: Die Rosy-Singers und Dieter Reith mit seiner Combo. Otto F. Baumann war eine Art sympathische Version von Alfred Tetzlaff. Das ungewöhnliche Format wollte ein unterhaltsamer Geschichtsunterricht sein.(Covertext)
