Ǧamāladdīn Ibn Nubātah al-Miṣrī (686-768/1287-1366) war Kanzleischreiber und einer der einflussreichsten Literaten der mamlukenzeitlichen Epoche. Im vorliegenden Band werden dem an der Literatur jener Epoche interessierten Publikum zum ersten Mal zwei Prosawerke Ibn Nubātahs vorgelegt. Dieser verließ 1316 Kairo und siedelte nach Syrien über, um sich gänzlich seiner adab-Leidenschaft zu widmen. Dort verbrachte er den Großteil seines Lebens und kehrte erst 1360 nach Ägypten zurück. Obwohl Ibn Nubātah in Reim und in Prosa außerordentliche Leistungen vollbracht hatte, ist er in die arabische Literaturgeschichte vor allem als vormoderner Dichter eingegangen. Den in anspruchsvoller arabischer Kunstprosa verfassten, einst hoch geschätzten Werken dieses Autors hingegen wurde bisher kaum Beachtung geschenkt. Die beiden Werke Kitāb zahr al-manṯūr und Min tarassul Ibn Nubātah enthalten thematisch vielfältige Proben privater Korrespondenz Ibn Nubātahs und bilden eine substanzreiche und vielversprechende Grundlage für die Erforschung sowohl der mamlukenzeitlichen Kunstprosa als auch der Kommunikationskultur innerhalb der adab-Elite.
