" Den eigentlich entscheidenden literarischen Wurf in diesem geistig-politischen Prozess leistete indes Claus Hammel (1932-1990) mit seiner genialen Satire »Die Preußen kommen«, die ebenso populär wie artifiziell war und von 1982 ab einem Siegeszug gleich die Theater in der DDR, auch im urpreußischen bzw. im urpreußisch gewesenen Potsdam, eroberte. Hammel, der ja schon früh Fontanes Jenny Treibel auf die Bühne (1963) gebracht hatte, brachte es fertig, mit der Ironisierung der womöglich nur »herrschaftlich« orientierten »Preußen- und Lutherverehrung« zu verdeutlichen, dass es in breiten Massen der DDR-Bevölkerung eine über die Zeiten (und über die Wellen massivster Preußen-Kritik) hinweg unausrottbare Affinität zum preußischen Erbe - vor allem auch in Gestalt herausragender Persönlichkeiten von F bis F, von Friedrich dem Großen bis Fontane, wie in Gestalt nicht nur sekundärer Tugenden, »Üb' immer Treu und Redlichkeit« - gegeben hatte."
