Stummfilm-Adaption des Shakespeare-Klassikers um den Dänenprinzen Hamlet, der die Ermordung seines Vaters an der Mutter und dem Stiefvater rächen soll, die Bluttat aber scheut. Der durch Asta Nielsens eigene Produktionsfirma hergestellte Film war der erste große internationale Erfolg eines deutschen Films nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg. Vor allem filmkundlich interessant, auch durch den eigenwilligen Interpretationsansatz, dessen Theorie dahingeht, daß Hamlet eine verkleidete Frau war.[film-dienst]
