Der "Bussard" – eine wohl im 14. Jahrhundert im elsässischen Sprachraum entstandene Erzählung (1140 Verse) – handelt von einem jungen englischen Fürsten, der sich am Pariser Hof in die französische Königstochter verliebt. Beide "brennen durch" und werden im Verlauf ihrer gemeinsamen Flucht durch den titelgebenden Raubvogel getrennt. Über größere Umwege finden die Geliebten schließlich wieder zueinander und besiegeln ihr gemeinsames Glück mit einer feierlichen Hochzeit am englischen Hof. Mehr als 160 Jahre nach dem Abdruck einer Bremer Handschrift des "Bussard" in von der Hagens "Gesammtabenteuern" wird die Verserzählung erstmals nach dem textgeschichtlich bisher kaum beachteten Moskauer Codex ediert; hier nennt sich ein bisher unbekannter Vlâgelîn als Dichter des "Bussard". Die Neuausgabe bietet in synoptischer Form die gesamte handschriftliche Überlieferung aus dem 14.–16. Jahrhundert (zwei Handschriften und zwei Fragmente), einen ausführlichen Stellenkommentar sowie eine neuhochdeutsche Übersetzung des mittelhochdeutschen Textes.
