In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die geometrische Struktur, die sich in einem Faden aus ursprünglich gestreckt und parallel nebeneinander liegenden Elementarfäden während der Drehungserteilung ausbildet, untersucht. Als die geometrische Struktur soll die Anordnung der Elementarfäden im gedrehten Faden bezeichnet werden. Für die Lösung dieses Problems ergeben sich zwei Wege. Der eine besteht darin, daß die Kurve, die ein bestimmter Elementarfaden beschreibt, mit Hilfe einer geeigneten mikroskopischen Beobachtungstechnik sichtbar gemacht wird. Der andere, der in der vorliegenden Arbeit beschritten wird, geht von einer Modellvorstellung über die Anordnung der Elementarfäden aus. Unter Zugrundelegung eines derartigen geometrischen ModelIs lassen sich aus den mechanischen Eigenschaften der Elementarfäden die mechanischen Eigenschaften des Fadens in Abhängigkeit vom Drehungsgrad voraussagen. Eine Annahme über die geometrische Struktur impliziert also eine Aussage über die mechanischen Eigenschaften. Das in der vorliegenden Arbeit entwickelte theoretische Modell liefert z. B. eine Voraussage über den Zusammenhang zwischen der (veränderlichen) Drehung des Fadens, dessen (veränderlicher) Länge und der in der Richtung der Fadenbündelachse wirkenden Zugkraft. Dieser in die Form eines Integralausdruckes gekleidete Zusammenhang ermöglicht einerseits eine Voraussage über die Abhängigkeit der Länge des Fadens von der Drehung bei einer bestimmten Zugkraft und andererseits eine Voraussage der bei einer bestimmten Drehung im Faden herrschenden Zugkraft, wenn die Länge des Fadens konstant gehalten wird
