    ISBN: 9783031153495
Series Statement: Springer Series on Biofilms 12
Content: 3M’s of Multi-Species Biofilms: Microbial Pathogens, Microenvironments and Minimalist Laboratory Approaches to Study Multi-Species Biofilms under Microenvironmental Conditions -- Methods for the visualization of multispecies biofilms -- In vitro, in vivo and ex vivo models to study mixed bacterial and fungal biofilms -- Current and emerging in vitro and in vivo biofilm models in investigating fungal-bacterial polymicrobial communities: Fungal-bacterial biofilm models -- Involvement of bacterial outer membrane vesicles in cell-cell interactions and their role in multi-species communities -- Polymicrobial biofilm models: the case of periodontal disease as an example -- Polymicrobial biofilms in cystic fibrosis lung infections: effects on antimicrobial susceptibility -- High resolution methods to study microbial interactions in biofilms -- Unity in Diversity: Interkingdom Polymicrobial Biofilms in Disease.
Content: In an age of antibiotic resistant infections, the study of biofilms is increasingly important. Microbes more than often exist in complex multi-species or polymicrobial communities, making infections difficult to detect, diagnose and treat. Given the increased focus on studying biofilms in research and laboratory settings, particularly under conditions that closely mimic the clinical state, it is important to get an overview of the recent methods, model systems and tools being developed and employed in this context. This book offers readers the opportunity to learn more about current methods being used in the investigation of multi-species biofilms, both in vivo and in vitro. For this, the book highlights new technologies built and designed for the study of multiple species within biofilm communities, including those that can be leveraged for the evaluation of antimicrobial treatment approaches. The application of these state-of-the-art techniques to further our understanding of multi-species biofilms will be discussed and the reader will learn how the clinical microenvironment and the development of biofilm communities are considered when developing such tools. With cutting-edge contributions from experts in the respective domains, this book will benefit translational and basic research scientists, as well as clinicians, and is an informative resource for educators and their students. .

    ISBN: 9783110734003
Content: This book explores the production and applications of biochar. This material is used to remove contaminants from industrial effl uent and to reutilize waste sludge in the production of biofuel/bioenergy. The treatment of wastewater and reuse of waste sludge in value added products manufacturing and environmental clean-up is explored. The proposed book provides a roadmap for future strategies for pollution abatement and sustainable development.
Note: Frontmatter -- , Contents -- , List of Authors -- , Removal of the antibiotics from wastewater by biochar -- , Biochar for the remediation of contaminated soil -- , Wastewater treatment using biochar technology -- , Application of biochar in wastewater treatment: a review -- , Role of biochar in the removal of organic and inorganic contaminants from waste gas streams -- , Mechanism of metal sorption by biochar -- , Biochar for sustainable environmental management -- , Unraveling a dynamic ameliorant of heavy metal–polluted soil: biochar -- , Application of biochar for wastewater treatment -- , Removal of the pharmaceutical compounds from wastewater by biochar -- , Application of biochar for wastewater treatment -- , An overview on the application of biomass-derived biochar in the treatment of wastewater -- , Biochar remediation techniques: efficient and eco-friendly tool for sustainable environment -- , Mechanism of removal of contaminants by modified biochar -- , Application of biochar in wastewater treatment -- , Biochar as an adsorbent for removal of pharmaceutical compounds from wastewater -- , Removal of the pharmaceutical compounds from wastewater by biochar -- , Applications of biochar to remediate heavy metal–contaminated soil -- , Biochar as a remediation solution for pharmaceutical-contaminated wastewater -- , Biochar as sustainable strategy for remediation and regeneration of heavy metal–contaminated soil -- , Role of biochar in the removal of organic and inorganic contaminants from wastewater -- , Index , In English.
