Der Chirug Jakob Rosenstein wird 1936 zusammen mit seinem Freund Paul Schreiber von den Nazis verhaftet. Beide werden in das KZ Buchenwald deportiert, wo Paul brutal ermordet wird. An seine Stelle tritt sein bester Freund, der Lagerkommandant und Nazioffizier Martin Schreiber, der das sinnlose Sterben nicht länger mit ansehen kann. Schreiber und Rosenstein überleben und treffen sich Jahre später in Jerusalem wieder. Doch auch dort verliert das Leiden nie an Aktualität. Ob und wie der Teufelskreis von Gewalt zu druchbrechen ist, zeigt der Roman in eindringlichen Bildern. - Ralf Karlsson, geb. 1930, ist Probst in Finnland, schreibt aber in seiner Muttersprache Schwedisch. U.a. war er Assistent an der skandinavischen Seemannskirche in Haifa, Reporter bei den Generalversammlungen des kirchlischen Weltverbandes in New Delhi, Uppsala, Nairobi, Vancouver und Canberra sowie Vorsitzender des christlichen Radioausschusses. Karlsson hat zahlreiche Hör- und Fernsehspiele geschrieben. Er bekam 1984 den ersten Preis beim Dramatiker-Wettbewerb des schwedischen Kulturfonds. Sein Theaterdrama "An der Grenze" wurde mit großem Erfolg vom schwedischen Theater in Abo aufgeführt. Sein Roman "Die Kreuziger" erschien zuerst 1995 in Finnland.
