Nach der Besetzung Dänemarks durch die Wehrmacht konnte eine dänische Regierung der "nationalen Sammlung" im Amt bleiben, jedoch nur auf der Basis einer Zusammenarbeit mit der Besatzungsmacht. Die zentrale Frage in Dänemark lautete daher: Kollaboration mit den Deutschen oder Widerstand? Jorgen Kieler (Jahrgang 1919) entschloss sich zum Widerstand. Zusammen mit seinen Geschwistern veröffentlichte er zunächst die Zeitung "Frit Danmark" und verhalf jüdischen Mitbürgern zur Flucht nach Schweden. 1943 schloss er sich der Gruppe "Holger Danske II" an, die Sabotageakte gegen Industrieanlagen und "Liquidierungen von Denunzianten" durchführte. Kieler wurde gefasst und zum Tode verurteilt, die Strafe in Konzentrationslagerhaft geändert. Aus dem Lager Porta Westfalica konnte er 1944 gerettet werden. Der Autor legt nüchtern und offen die Beweggründe seines Handelns dar, dokumentiert die Durchführung von Sabotageakten und seinen Lageraufenthalt. Ein Nachwort von Therkel Strade liefert knappe Informationen über das besetzte Dänemark. Kein deutschsprachiger Vergleichstitel bekannt. (3) (Claudia Bußjäger)
