    Format: 1 Online-Ressource (XII, 141 Seiten) : , Illustrationen, Diagramme.
    ISBN: 978-3-318-00544-8
Series Statement: Monographs in clinical cytology Vol. 15
Content: This monograph is based on a detailed review of more than 1,600 aspiration cytology biopsies of salivary gland tumors, including even rare entities, which were collected over a period of 45 years at the Institut Curie and correlated with histopathological diagnoses according to the most recent classifications (WHO and AFIP).Review of such a large series of cases has allowed the authors to specify diagnostic criteria for the great variety of tumor and tumor-like entities occurring at this site, including the rare ones.In order to facilitate cytological diagnosis, lesions are divided into adenomas, low-grade and high-grade malignancies, other tumors and tumor-like lesions, and further subclassified according to the dominant cell types. Both typical and unusual features are described, illustrated, and summarized in tables and key points for differential diagnosis.Guidelines for the practical clinical application of aspiration cytology related to salivary gland tumors as well as the accuracy of cytological diagnosis and a complete bibliography are presented. Preoperative cytological diagnosis may reduce the number of unnecessary surgical removals and avoid frozen sections which are notoriously difficult.Illustrated with numerous color photographs and representing the most up-to-date text of its kind, this handbook is a valuable resource primarily for surgical pathologists in the ENT field, but will also be of interest to surgeons, particularly those involved in head and neck pathology, and medical oncologists

Format: XI, 357 p. 404 illus., 399 illus. in color. , online resource.
    ISBN: 9783319610276
Content: This richly illustrated book will help presurgically diagnose pediatric/young adult tumors. The content is divided into two parts. The first part shows step-by-step how to perform a small volume specimen such as fine needle aspiration/core needle biopsy and how to correlate the morphology with the clinical, radiological, and/or molecular information. In turn, the second part presents a comprehensive overview of the various tumor entities. The content represents diagnostic modalities from the major diagnostic centers worldwide, and is supplemented by the authors` 25 years of experience in diagnosing pediatric tumors. This book will successfully guide practitioners, researchers and oncology pediatricians through the process of sample harvesting and diagnosing. Pediatric tumors represent a large variety of lesions including pseudotumors of inflammatory and non-inflammatory origin, various types of lympadenopathy, benign lesions, specific sarcomas, and blastemal malignancies. These age-specific and histotype-specific tumors of various origin, evolution and prognosis are often characteristic in morphological and molecular levels, making their diagnosis highly specialized.
Note: General Considerations: Introduction -- Clinics -- Radiological diagnosis and sampling technique -- Molecular diagnosis -- Specific considerations using cytology material -- General cytological morphological aspects in differential diagnosis -- Histopathological Diagnosis on small biopsy. Particular Entities: Tumor-like Lesions (Infectious and Non-Infectious) -- Round Cell Sarcomas -- Blastemal Tumors -- Low-Grade Superficial connective Tumors -- Non-round Cell Sarcomas -- Epithelial Tumors and Mimicks -- Leukemias and Lymphomas -- CNS tumors.
