Mit dem vorliegenden 10. Band der "Blauen Reihe mit dem farbigen Balken" wird ein neuer H6hepunkt der PETN-Forschung markiert. Bedingt durch seine giinstigen pharmakokinetischen Eigenschaften sowie das Fehlen von Toleranzentwicklung in klinisch relevanten Modellen, ist das PETN fiir eine international ausgerichtete NO Forschungsgemeinde von hohem Interesse. Dieses ist nicht nur durch die bisheri gen 9 Einzelausgaben dieser Schriftenreihe belegt, sondern wird auch durch die umfangreiche PETN-Bibliographie dokumentiert. Beitrage von PETN, auch im Ver gleich zu anderen klinisch eingesetzten oder experimentell benutzten Nitrovasodila toren wurden in den letzten Jahren auf allen internationalen Kongressen und Sym posien vorgetragen, die sich mit NO-Donatoren beschliftigen. Insbesondere von den klinisch eingesetzten Nitrovasodilatoren, dem GTN und dem ISMN, unterscheidet sich PETN durch seine basalpharmakologischen Eigenschaften beispielsweise hin sichtlich der Venoselektivitat, die eine Erkllirung dafiir sein k6nnte, warum es unter PETN zu einer deutlich niedrigeren Inzidenz von Kopfschmerzen kommt. Das pharmakologische Profil und das sich daraus ergebende vorteilhafte therapeutische Spektrum von PETN konnte von der Arbeitsgruppe um den Autor dieses Bandes bereits im 1. Band der Pentalong-Schriftenreihe prasentiert werden. Von besonderem Interesse fiir den Autor waren die endothelprotektiven Effekte von PETN bei experimenteller Arteriosklerose. Neben der typischen biphasischen Phar makokinetik und der pharmakodynarnisch imponierenden fehlenden Toleranzent wicklung ist die durch PETN nachgewiesene Endothelprotektion bei experimentel ler Arteriosklerose die 3. Saule, die die Besonderheit dieses Nitrates ausmacht
