Die Lichtregie ist atemberaubend und macht einmal mehr bewusst, wie avantgardistisch der russische Film in den ersten Jahren nach der Oktoberrevolution war, als noch keine Dogmen seine Ästhetik einschränkten. In der Sammlung des Filmmuseums ist eine außerordentlich schöne Kopie des Films überliefert, die im Vorjahr restauriert und gesichert wurde. Franz Reisecker, seit den späten 80er Jahren ein zentraler Protagonist der avancierten Crossover-Musikszene Österreichs (Occidental Blue Harmony Lovers, Orchester 33 1/3, Lichtenberg), hat parallel zur Restaurierung eine musikalische Interpretation von "Po zakonu" erarbeitet. Seine Musik, die analoge und digitale Verfahrensweisen vereint, ist nicht nostalgisch-historisierend angelegt, geht aber subtil auf die Spezifika von Kulešovs Ästhetik ein. In gewisser Weise, so Reisecker, könne man darin auch ein Vorbild für spätere Italowestern entdecken. [www.filmmuseum.at]
