Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit der Anthropomorphisierung von Tieren. Dabei wird der abendfüllende Animationsfilm betrachtet, der seit seinen Anfängen immer wieder Tierfiguren zeigt. Anhand der drei Filme 'A Bug's Life', 'The Secret of NIMH' und 'Tarzan' wird exemplarisch die Vermenschlichung von Tieren dargestellt. Einzelne Aspekte der Anthropomorphisierung werden unterschieden und näher beleuchtet. Es werden vier Figurengattungen definiert, die sich im Grad der Vermenschlichung unterscheiden. Durch Beispiele werden diese veranschaulicht. Die Anwendbarkeit der Gattungseinteilung wird kritisch betrachtet und der Nutzen für Animatoren und Character-Designer herausgestellt, der sich aus dem Bewusstsein über die Aspekte der Vermenschlichung ergibt.
