Content:
Holstein im 17. Jahrhundert: Der adlige Hinrich will gegen den Willen seines Vaters, Schlossherr zu Grieshuus, die einfache Magd Bärbe zur Frau nehmen. Als der Alte stirbt, entbrennt zwischen Hinrich und seinem jüngeren Bruder Detlev ein erbitterter Streit um das Erbe. Der aufwändig produzierte Ufa-Großfilm basiert auf der gleichnamigen Novelle von Theodor Storm und ist ein Klassiker der Babelsberger Studioästhetik. Nach seiner Uraufführung 1925 wurde der Film stark gekürzt. Die restaurierte Fassung zeigt Arthur von Gerlachs Stummfilm wieder annähernd vollständig. Die Schnittrekonstruktion erfolgte auf Basis eines Kameranegativs sowie mit Hilfe der Originalpartitur von Gottfried Huppertz. (Covertext)
