Psychophysische Störungen beim fliegenden Personal können durch die Bedingungen des Fluges, Beschleunigungskräfte, Vibration, Sauerstoffmangel, hervorgerufen werden, welche die Flugfähigkeit der Piloten und die Handlungsfähigkeit der Besatzungsmitglieder einschränken oder sogar aufheben. Ebenfalls ist eine herabsetzende Beeinflussung der Flugtüchtigkeit des fliegenden Personals durch die Einwirkung oder Aufnahme bestimmter chemischer Substanzen aus der gefährlichen Ladung oder durch die Einnahme von Alkohol, Medikamenten oder Drogen möglich. In der vorliegenden Fliegerarztarbeit beschreibt und bewertet der Autor chemische Nachweisverfahren, die bei Unfällen und Zwischenfällen im Flugbetrieb, in welchen ein Verdacht auf eine toxische Beeinflussung beim fliegenden Personal besteht, anzuwenden sind. Für den qualitativen und quantitativen Giftnachweis in derartigen Fällen ist ausser der Sicherstellung der Atem- und Kabinenluft im Luftfahrzeug eine ausreichende Menge von Blut- und Urinproben von dem betroffenen Personal zu entnehmen und auf den schnellstmöglichen Weg den entsprechenden Laboratorien zur Untersuchung zuzuleiten. Während der Probeentnahme und der Untersuchung sind Nachweisverfahren anzuwenden, die die Giftart, die Giftmenge und die Giftquelle sicher ermitteln, ohne die Untersuchungsergebnisse zu verfälschen.
