Gewaltfreie Protestbewegungen und ihre Unterstützung aus dem Ausland sind regelmäßig Gegenstand von zwischenstaatlichen Auseinandersetzungen. Viele Staaten sehen hierin eine Verletzung des völkerrechtlichen Interventionsverbots. Dem stehen jedoch die völkerrechtlich gewährleisteten Menschenrechte und das völkerrechtliche Demokratieprinzip entgegen, die von Protestbewegungen gefordert und gefördert werden. Der Autor untersucht dieses Spannungsfeld anhand von fünf detaillierten Fallstudien zu den Protestbewegungen in Ägypten 2011, Ukraine 2013/14, Sudan 2018/19, Venezuela 2019 und Hongkong 2019/2020 und identifiziert hierdurch die völkerrechtliche Regulierung der staatlichen Unterstützung gewaltfreier Protestbewegungen.
