Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?, so nannte der Dramatiker Edward Albee sein bekanntestes Theaterstück, wobei der Titel auf einem Sprachspiel basiert. Hier wird die Frage ernst genommen und klar mit "Niemand" beantwortet, denn die gezeichnete Biografie von Susanne Kuhlendahl über Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) ist ein Schmuckstück. Die Autorin besticht durch Reduktion. Viele kleine Bilder/Szenen ergeben ein Ganzes. Der Text wirkt wie eine kommentierende Bildunterschrift, das klassische System der Panels ist aufgelöst. Sparsam eingesetzte Sprechblasen lassen den Eindruck entstehen, hier würde auch mit dem Medium Comic/Graphic Novel gespielt. Zurückhaltend die Kolorierung, hier lässt Kuhlendahl die Kraft ihrer vielen kleinen Zeichnungen wirken. Ganz wunderbar und durchdacht in dieser ungewöhnlichen Ausführung, geben zwei Seiten kompakt Auskunft über die wichtigsten Lebensdaten und eine weitere Doppelseite zeigt im Bild jene Menschen, die in Virginia Woolfs Leben eine Rolle gespielt haben. Eine Galerie, die die Hauptperson quasi einrahmt und gleichzeitig für Orientierung sorgt. Das ist einfach fabelhaft. (2 S)
