"Die im vorliegenden Band versammelten Beiträge wurden im März 2014 auf einer Tagung, deren Thema dem Titel des Bandes entsprach, auf der Ebernburg bei Bad Münster am Stein (Rheinland-Pfalz) gehalten. Die Tagung war die dritte von fünf zwischen 2012-2016 durchgeführten Tagungen zum Rahmenthema "Religionsgemeinschaft und Identität. Prozesse jüdischer und christlicher Identitätsbildung im Rahmen der Antike" - ein Projekt, das zwar der Fachgruppe "Neues Testament" der Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft für Theologie zugeordnet war, das aber im Hinblick auf Verantwortung wie Durchführung eine bewusst interdisziplinäre Ausrichtung besaß" (Vorwort)
