Der Band stellt umfassend psychologische Aspekte von männerspezifischen Krankheiten und biologische Entwicklungsvorgänge dar. Aus der Perspektive der Entwicklung widmen sich die ersten Beiträge biologischen und psychologischen Veränderungen: Warum sterben Männer früher als Frauen? Was bedeutet Altern bzw. der Verlust der Leistungsfähigkeit für das männliche Selbstverständnis? Wie hängen Geschlechtsrollenidentität und gesundheitsbezogenes Verhalten zusammen? Der zweite Teil des Bandes beschäftigt sich mit ausgewählten Erkrankungsbildern. Sexualprobleme und das Belastungserleben auf Grund von männlicher Infertilität stellen dabei die Schwerpunktthemen dar. Gibt es z.B. einen Zusammenhang zwischen Alltagserleben und Spermaqualität? Wie erleben Männer die neuen reproduktionsmedizinischen Verfahren? Im letzten Abschnitt des Bandes geht es unter anderem um den Einfluss von Erkrankungen auf die Paarbeziehung sowie um die Bedeutung des Hodens für Männer, die an einem Prostatakarzinom leiden.
