Der Kader ähnelt immer den klassischen Bühnenaufbau, die statische Einstellungsgröße erfasst den gesamten 'Bühnenraum', auf dem Méliès selbst und seine Schauspieler agieren. Und doch nutzt Méliès geschickt die Möglichkeiten des neuen Mediums: er erweitert klassische Theatertricks wie verborgene Falltüren um ebenso einfache wie effektive Filmtricks. Viele seiner Filme arbeiten mit Stoptricks, in denen die Kamera kurz angehalten wird, während die Szene verändert wird. So erscheinen dann wie von Geisterhand Requisiten und Figuren auf der Leinwand, um dann ebenso gespenstisch wieder zu verschwinden.
