Die Autorin gilt als Pionierin der Kunsttherapie in den USA. Sie ist lange Zeit Professorin und Direktorin der Fakultät für Klinische Kunsttherapie an der Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles gewesen und trug wesentlich zur Anerkennung der Kunsttherapie als eigenständige Therapieform im klinischen Bereich in Deutschland bei. In ihrem zweiten Buch befasst Sie sich mit der Kunsttherapie als Familientherapie oder Familien-Kunsttherapie und zeigt anhand von entwicklungschronologisch aufgebauten Fallbeispielen unterschiedlichster Diagnosen wie im Rahmen dieser Therapie methodisch vorgegangen werden kann. Ausgehend von einer Neuorientierung der psychoanalytischen Therapie im Sinne einer Bedeutungszunahme des Hier- und Jetzt in den 60iger Jahren, vor der Entwicklung der Familientherapie, integrierte die Autorin die Kunsttherapie, als psychotherapeutische Technik, in dieses sich neuntwickelnde Feld.
