Content: In 2013, Chinese superstar pianist Lang Lang took Royal Albert Hall by storm with an in-the-round solo recital on one of the world's most famous stages. The concert featured Mozart Sonatas No. 5 in G Major, No. 4 in E-flat Major, and No. 8 in A Minor, and Chopin's Four Ballades, followed by a stunning series of encores including Mozart's Rondo alla Turca, Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze No. 5, Chopin's Nocturne Op. 55, No. 2, and finishing with a breathtaking interpretation of Scriabin's Étude Op.8 No. 12 in D-sharp Minor. Uniform Title: Mastersingers of Nuremberg, WWV 96
Content: Mariss Jansons, Lang Lang, Janine Jansen, Thomas Hampson, and musicians from top European orchestras join forces to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Concertgebouw, one of the world's leading concert halls. The Concertgebouw was officially inaugurated on April 11, 1888 (though the first concert would not be held until November 3). Public interest was so great that Amsterdam experienced its very first traffic jam (of carriages). 125 years later, during the month of April 2013, the RCO and the Concertgebouw are organized an anniversary concert together. Under the baton of chief conductor Mariss Jansons, the orchestra welcomes three popular guest soloists: Lang Lang performing Prokofiev's virtuoso Piano Concerto No. 3 (third movement), Janine Jansen playing Saint-Saëns's Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso (one of the violinist's most beloved scores, a rendition rapturously received in the Concertgebouw hall) and Thomas Hampson singing Lieder by Gustav Mahler. Musicians from the RCO, the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks also join forces for a performance of the Elégie from Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings. The concert, which opens with a prelude from The Master-Singers of Nuremberg by Wagner, closes with Richard Strauss's orchestral suite for Der Rosenkavalier. Like Mahler, Strauss conducted the orchestra many times during his career

Content: "The Highest Level" explores the Berlin recording session with Lang Lang and the Berliner Philharmoniker under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The documentary gives audiences a glimpse at processes usually kept under wraps--the artists' personal preparation, the rehearsal and recording sessions in the Berliner Philharmonie, the work of the mixing and balancing units during audio post-production--documenting what happens when musical stars align and bring a once-in-a-lifetime recording into being. The visual and emotional closeness to the artists makes the film a particularly intimate experience: to Lang Lang and Sir Simon Rattle, to the musicians of the Berliner Philharmoniker, and to the audio engineers and technical crew. It is their committed collaboration that made their recording of Bartók's Piano Concert No. 2 and Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto possible. Picture: Lang Lang © Harald Hoffmann

Content: Dragon Songs follows the Chinese star pianist Lang Lang on a concert tour through China that culminates in a special cross-over concert at the Beijing conservatory incorporating traditional Chinese music. For Lang Lang, it is a journey back to his roots, after leaving China eight years ago to pursue an international career. Lang Lang's concert featuring traditional Chinese music was recorded at the Central Conservatory of Beijing, where the artist began his professional studies and where he found experts in traditional Chinese music to join him for this musical meeting of East and West. On and off the concert stage, Lang Lang views himself as mediator between cultures. Lang Lang also sees his success and exceptional talent as being accompanied by great responsibility, in particular to younger generations. The documentary follows him taking on some of these non-musical responsibilities as a UNICEF ambassador, for example shadowing him on his visit to street children in his home town Shenyang, during part of which he reminisces on camera about his childhood. Dragon Songs is the result of collaborative efforts between Lang Lang himself and director Benedict Mirow, and it gives audiences a refreshing look at an artist normally only visible during large press events or on concert stages. Uniform Title: Roman Carnival, Op. 9
Content: Every year, as the days grow longer, Austria gets ready for one of the classical calendar’s highlights: the Vienna Philharmonic’s Summer Night Concert. This event, inaugurated in 2004, brings the prestigious ensemble together with some of the world’s most illustrious soloists—in front of an audience that regularly numbers more than 100,000—in the gardens of Vienna’s world-famous Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2014, the marvelous musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic teamed up with renowned German conductor Christoph Eschenbach. Eschenbach is also a celebrated pianist, but on this occasion he leaves the piano pyrotechnics to the prodigious Lang Lang, who takes the stage to perform the virtuosic Burleske, composed by a 21-year-old Richard Strauss in 1885-86. Also on the program are two overtures by Hector Berlioz, including the delightful Roman Carnival, and Liszt's symphonic poem Mazeppa, inspired by Victor Hugo's poem of the same name.
