Was seriöse Autoren zum Thema Schul-Amoklauf, wie zuletzt E. Pollmann (BA 5/09) und F.J. Robertz (BA 2/08), zusammengetragen haben, wird durch den US-Psychologen Langman in einer Langzeitstudie fundiert: Nicht allein Waffenbesitz, Computerspiele oder negative schulische und häusliche Einflüsse sind für einen Amoklauf verantwortlich zu machen; Kern des Problems sind massive psychische Störungen der Täter. In seinen Fallstudien über jugendliche Amokläufer legt Langman als 1. eine Typologie der Täter vor: Es handelte sich immer um psychopathische, psychotische oder traumatisierte Jugendliche. Langman warnt aber davor, schlichte Gleichungen aufzumachen. Die Anschläge erscheinen vielmehr als eine komplexe Mischung aus lebensweltlichen, familiären und individuellen Faktoren, die sich für jeden Täter anders darstellen. Doch es gäbe durchaus Gemeinsamkeiten aller 3 Tätertypen: Es sind männliche Jugendliche, bei denen auffällt, wie häufig ihnen Scham, Neid und das Gefühl, als Mann zu scheitern, zu schaffen machten.
