Die Sonderausstellung "Augustus. Macht, Moral, Marketing vor 2000 Jahren" zeichnet zuerst das Leben von Augustus nach: Der Adoptivsohn von Caius Iulius Caesar schaltete auf dem Weg zur Macht mehrere Rivalen aus. Er schaffte es, Frieden im Inneren herzustellen, führte aber fast durchgängig Expansionskriege: Das Römische Reich erreichte seine bisher grösste Ausdehnung und umfasste erstmals den gesamten Mittelmeerraum.00Wir informieren über das Familienleben des Augustus, seine strengen moralischen Wertvorstellungen, die Reglung seiner Nachfolge und über die umfassende Propaganda, die er betrieb. Mit seiner Imagekampagne war Augustus ein Marketingstratege avant la lettre. Im zweiten Teil der Ausstellung geht es um das Goldene Zeitalter: Hier zeigen wir auf, warum die Regentschaft von Augustus als Beginn einer neuen Kunstepoche verstanden wird. Schliesslich stellen wir die Frage nach der Bedeutung von Augustus' Herrschaft für Europa, die Schweiz und den Mittelmeerraum.
