Von 1898 bis 1902 finanzierte der Unternehmer Ernst von Sieglin (1848 -1927) eine Expedition nach Alexandria zur Erforschung des hellenistisch-römischen Ägyptens. Die Funde der Grabung sowie weitere in Ägypten aufgekaufte Sammlungen stiftete er dem Dresdner Albertinum, dem Stuttgarter Landesmuseum und dem Archäologischen Institut der Universität Tübingen. In dem neuen Bestandskatalog wird jetzt erstmals die gesamte, meist kleinformatige Marmorskulptur der Expedition Ernst von Sieglin publiziert, sowohl die Funde als auch die in Ägypten angekauften Sammlungen. Ferner wird die Grabung im sogenannten Königsviertel Alexandrias, 331 v. Chr. von Alexander dem Grossen gegründet, sowie im berühmten Heiligtum des Sarapis mit bislang unpublizierten Grabungsfotos und Plänen vorgestellt.
