Charles ist ein Außenseiter in Benjamins Klasse. Keiner spricht mit ihm, alle lachen über ihn. Auf der Klassenreise vergessen sie ihn sogar. Dann hat er einen Unfall und kann lange nicht zur Schule kommen. Benjamin, der Ich-Erzähler, soll ihm jeden Tag die Schulsachen bringen. Dazu hat er zunächst gar keine Lust und Charles ist auch überhaupt nicht interessiert. Doch allmählich lernen sich die Jungen näher kennen: Sie reden und lachen miteinander und schließlich wird Charles für Benjamin genau so wichtig wie er für den Kranken. Bei ihm kann er sogar seinen Kummer über die Streitigkeiten seiner Eltern vergessen. Auch in diesem 2. Jugendbuch des jungen französischen Autors (vgl. "Die Busfahrerin" ID 44/03) entdeckt ein Junge, dass Menschen oft ganz anders sind, als sie nach außen wirken. Er lernt, den anderen zu verstehen, ihn zu ermutigen und abzulenken. Comicartige Zeichnungen, auf wenige klare Linien beschränkt, weiß auf schwarz oder schwarz auf weiß großzügig über die Seiten verteilt, untermalen den ebenso aufs Wesentliche beschränkten, dialogreichen Text. Empfehlenswert für nachdenkliche Leser. . - Benjamin soll seinem Klassenkameraden Charles die Hausaufgaben bringen, das ist ihm zunächst sehr lästig, denn Charles ist nicht beliebt - doch das ändert sich schon bald. Ab 8.
