The classic wartime propaganda thriller from Alberto Cavalcanti, Went The Day Well? is based on a short story by Graham Greene and sees a platoon of German paratroopers invade an English village in preparation for an upcoming invasion. Disguised as British troops, all goes according to plan until vigilant local postmistress Mrs Collins (Muriel George) has her suspicions aroused by clues unwittingly left by the Germans. Unfortunately, the man who she informs of her suspicions is actually a fifth columnist... Well served by astute performances, exciting action, suspenseful set pieces and an evocative score by William Walton, this is a brilliant evocation of a nation at war - and the sometimes brutal measures needed to overcome an enemy.
