Il est suffisamment rare qu'un ouvrage soit le premier dans son champ de recherche à être publié pour mériter qu'on le souligne : Psychologie en néphrologie est en effet la première publication consacrée à l'approche psychopathologique en néphrologie. Dirigé par D.Cupa, professeur de psychopathologie et directrice de l'Unité de psycho-néphrologie de l'AURA, ce livre rassemble des textes concernant des recherches récentes sur la souffrance psychique, sur les appréhensions et les craintes, ainsi que la qualité de vie des patients dialysés ou transplantés. Réalisés par des néphrologues, des transplanteurs, et une généticienne, des psychiatres, psychologues et une psychanalyste, ces travaux établissent que somaticiens et ";psy"; peuvent travailler, voire créer ensemble. Mieux, ils démontrent qu'en psycho-néphrologie, seul un travail élaboratif entre somaticiens, psychiatres et psychologues permet aux patients d'être reconnus dans leur réalité somato-psychique douloureuse. De fait, cliver corps et psyché revient à produire chez ces malades des effets délabrant confirmant que qualité des soins et qualité de vie des patients ne sont pas dissociables.
