Er ist ein unbequemer Mann, dieser am Silvesterabend 1908 in Buczacz, Galizien, geborene Simon Wiesenthal, Architekt von Beruf, "Nazijäger" von Berufung, dessen gesamte Familie im Holocaust umgebracht wurde, nur er und seine Frau überlebten; ein konsequenter auch, der zunächst in Linz, dann Wien in seinem Dokumentationszentrum, nie aufgebend, Material über Judenverfolgung und -vernichtung, über Mörder und Schreibtischtäter sammelte, Adolf Eichmann aufspürte, auch KZ-Kommandanten, wie Franz Stangl, und andere. Davon war in Wiesenthals "Recht nicht Rache" (BA 2/89) zu lesen, davon und von mehr, von Wallenberg, Mengele, dem Fall Waldheim, den historischen Hintergründen, handelt es die biographische Reportage eines US-Journalisten (dafür zum "Author of the Year 1995" gekürt), die erstmals Leben und Lebenswerk Wiesenthals einer kritischen Prüfung unterzieht. Ein vorzüglich geschriebenes Buch, spannend bis zur letzten Seite, informativ und zu recht ausgezeichnet. (2) (Friedrich Andrae)
