Content: "Using a wealth of infographics and classroom examples, Dogs in Schools sets out the pedagogical principles that schools can employ to work with school dogs in a way that promotes the well-being of all participants and creates a safe environment for all. This is the first book to combine theory and research with the views of experienced teachers and professionals working around the world, from the United Kingdom to India, from Australia to mainland Europe. Their perspectives illustrate the wide-ranging interest in school dogs but also highlight common concerns. For policymakers, this is a book not to ignore because it shows how dogs have the potential to make a significant contribution to children's well-being at a time of growing concern in this area. Simultaneously, the authors endorse the views of contributors who call for the introduction of humane regulations and fulsome guidance so that school dogs are viewed as sentient companions and not relegated to the latest educational fad. This is a must-read book for all those who are serious about humane education and ensuring the well-being and happiness of both children and dogs"--

Content: Writing development and pedagogy is a high priority area, particularly with standardised testing showing declines in writing across time and through the years of schooling. However, to date there are relatively few texts for teachers and teacher educators which detail how best to enable the children to become confident, autonomous and agentic writers of the future. Developing Writers Across the Primary and Secondary Years provides cumulative insights into how writing develops and how it can be taught across years of compulsory schooling. This edited collection is a timely and original contribution, addressing a significant literacy need for teachers of writing across three key stages of writing development, covering early (4-7 years old), primary (7-12 years old) and secondary years (12-16 years old) in Anglophone countries. Each section addresses two broader themes -- becoming a writer with a child-oriented focus and writing pedagogy with a teacher-oriented focus. Together, the book brings to bear rigorous research and deep professional understanding of the writing classroom. It offers a novel approach conceiving of writing development as a dynamic and multidimensional concept. Such an integrated interdisciplinary understanding enables pedagogical thinking and development to address more holistically the complex act of writing.

Content: " Brought to you by Penguin. Well-behaved women don't make history: difficult women do.Helen Lewis argues that feminism's success is down to complicated, contradictory, imperfect women, who fought each other as well as fighting for equal rights. Too many of these pioneers have been whitewashed or forgotten in our modern search for feel-good, inspirational heroines. It's time to reclaim the history of feminism as a history of difficult women. In this book, you'll meet the working-class suffragettes who advocated bombings and arson, the princess who discovered why so many women were having bad sex,the pioneer of the refuge movement who became a men's rights activist, the 'striker in a sari' who terrified Margaret Thatcher, the wronged Victorian wife who definitely wasn't sleeping with the prime minister, and the lesbian politician who outraged the country. Taking the story up to the present with the twenty-first-century campaign for abortion services, Helen Lewis reveals the unvarnished – and unfinished – history of women's rights. Drawing on archival research and interviews, Difficult Women is a funny, fearless and sometimes shocking narrative history, which shows why the feminist movement has succeeded – and what it should do next. The battle is difficult, and we must be difficult too. © Helen Lewis 2020 (P) Penguin Audio 2020 "

The book is full of Lewis' short, sharp political observations...almost always as funny as they are informative... It proves her point, that we all have something to learn from each other, if we can open our minds to the true, complicated nature of humanity." Rezension(4): "Sunday Times: Difficult Women is full of vivid detail, jam-packed with research and fizzing with provocation." Rezension(5): "New Statesman: Difficult Women was a joy to read... I learned so many delicious facts about women whom I thought I knew. In fact, reading Difficult Women felt like sitting down with a friend and gossiping about other women in our circle... It has some howl-out-loud funny moments... Helen Lewis does more than just tell their stories –"
