Die zumeist für vier Personen berechneten, problemlos nachkochbaren Rezepte zeigen, wie man aus wenigen frischen Zutaten und selbst gemachten oder gekauften Grundprodukten leckere Snacks, Fingerfood und Beilagen, Nudel- und Reisgerichte, Fisch, Fleisch, Desserts und Getränke zubereiten kann. Themenseiten zu Miso, Ei und Tofu, Rezepte für Würzsaucen, Gewürzmischungen, Dashi und Anleitungen zum Reiskochen ergänzen die mit genauen Zeitangaben und ganzseitigen Fotos versehenen Rezepte. Einige Gerichte muten fast europäisch an, haben aber immer japanische Würzung und lassen sich mithilfe der Menüvorschläge für unterschiedlichste Gelegenheiten zusammenstellen.
