Der Film erzählt von dem mutigen und visionären Widerstand liberianischer Frauen, die im Jahr 2003 maßgeblich dazu beigetragen haben, Frieden für ihr vom Bürgerkrieg zerrissenes Land zu erreichen. Der Krieg zwischen dem korrupten Regime unter Charles Taylor und dem Zusammenschluss der Warlords LURD (Liberia United for Reconciliation and Democracy), die Taylor stürzen wollten, hatte das Land zerstört, die Zivilbevölkerung traumatisiert und zur Flucht in die Hauptstadt Monrovia gezwungen. Opfer waren vor allem die Frauen und die Kinder. Viele dieser Frauen hatten selbst Schreckliches erlebt, ließen sich dadurch aber nicht brechen und einschüchtern. Der Film berichtet in Interviews mit den führenden Frauen der Bewegung und anhand von Archivmaterial von diesem historischen Friedenskampf von dem Zusammenschluss von christlichen und muslimische Frauen, ihre Aktionen, ihrem Mut, ihrer Ausdauer, ihrem Leid und ihrer Hoffnung und schließlich auch vom Erfolg ihrer Friedensdemonstration, die zur Vertreibung von Charles Taylor führte und zu der Wahl von Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Afrikas erster demokratisch gewählter Präsidentin.
