An Hand eigener Fälle wird zur Frage der Pathogenese odontogener Geschwulste Stellung genommen. Die entzündliche Genese kleinerer Follikularzysten wird als möglich erachtet. Sie genügt jedoch nicht zur Erklärung abnorm großer Zysten mit heterotoper Zahnretention, besonders wenn diese Zystenbildungen beim gleichen Individuum mehrfach und im Verein mit andern Mißbildungen vorkommen. Für diese Fälle ist die Entstehung als Mißbildung einer Zahnanlage oder der Zahnleiste viel wahrscheinlicher und es dürfte daher richtiger sein, diese besondere Zystenform den odontogenen Tumoren zuzuzählen. Das Röntgenbild gestattet immer die Allgemeindiagnose: odontogener Tumor. Die genaue Differenzierung der Geschwulst ist außer beim Odontom nur durch die histologische Untersuchung möglich. Da im Falle des Adamantinoms eine verstümmelnde Operation erforderlich ist, muß die Diagnose in jedem unklaren Fälle durch Probeexzision sichergestellt werden.
