Vor ein paar Jahren erinnerten die gleichnamige CD (IN 50/11) und DVD (2012, hier nicht besprochen) an die 1999 verstorbene I. Brandenburg und wurden mit dem Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik geehrt. Jetzt legt der Regisseur (B. Kaempfert: ID-A 48/02) die Buchfassung seiner Recherchen vor und zeichnet darin, ergänzt um zahlreiche Fotos und O-Töne, die wechselvolle Karriere der fast vergessenen Sängerin nach: Den ersten großen Senkrechtstart erlebte sie als europaweit gefeierte Jazzsängerin im Nachkriegsdeutschland. In den 1960er-Jahren aber sah sie sich zur Existenzsicherung gezwungen, ins Schlagerfach zu wechseln. Allerdings bezahlte sie dafür mit der bitteren Erfahrung, benutzt zu werden, Anfeindungen und üble Nachrede in der Presse auszuhalten. Als emanzipierte Frau geriet sie immer wieder in den Zwiespalt zwischen Anspruch und Sachzwang, Traum und Erwartung durch andere. So beschreibt diese Biografie differenziert und flüssig lesbar zugleich den schweren Weg weiblicher Selbstbestimmung im Deutschland der 1950er-/1960er-Jahre. Ab mittleren Beständen empfohlen.
