"Die In-vitro-Fertilisation (IVF) stellt eine mittlerweile etablierte Therapie für ungewollt kinderlose Paare dar. Nichtsdestotrotz impliziert sie vielschichtige Problemfelder, die auch ethisch relevant sind. Im ersten Teil werden wichtige empirische Grundlagen vorgestellt: Methoden der Reproduktionsmedizin, Erfolgsrate der IVF, Ursachen und Umgang mit ungewollter Kinderlosigkeit sowie Erfahrungen von Paaren mit der IVF-Therapie. Darauf aufbauend markiert der zweite Teil zentrale ethische Herausforderungen auf der Mikro-, Meso- und Makroebene. Unter anderem wird das Therapieverständnis der Reproduktionsmedizin kritisch angefragt, der Status des menschlichen Embryos reflektiert sowie die Notwendigkeit einer qualifizierten psychologischen Beratung und einer gesamtgesellschaftlichen Verortung des Themas verdeutlicht."
