Das Buch ist der Auftakt zu einer neuen Reihe, welche die Geschichte der österreichischen Gebrauchsgrafik bis zum heutigen Grafik-Design aufarbeiten wird. Band 1 behandelt die Geschichte des Bundes Österreichischer Gebrauchsgraphiker von der Gründung 1926 bis zu seiner Auflösung durch die Nazis im Jahr 1938. Der Historiker und Kulturwissenschafter Christian Maryska schildert in seinem Essay diese Gründungsphase bis zur Eingliederung in die Goebbelssche Reichskulturkammer. Sein Beitrag macht mit historischem, größtenteils unveröffentlichtem Bildmaterial ein bislang nicht dargestelltes Kapitel österreichischer Kultur- und Kunstgeschichte lebendig und erinnert an wichtige Designer wie Joseph Binder, Hermann Kosel, Viktor Th. Slama oder Hans Neumann. Eine Besonderheit der Publikation ist zudem die lückenlose chronologische Darstellung sämtlicher Titelseiten der österreichischen Zeitschriften "Kontakt" und "Österreichische Reklame". In ganzseitigen Farbabbildungen wird die Entwicklung des Grafik-Designs in der Zwischenkriegszeit visuell dargestellt. Das Buch enthält auch ein Verzeichnis der rund 150 Mitglieder des BÖG bis zum Verbandsverbot im Jahr 1938
