Gegenstand der Untersuchung ist das Zusammenspiel wirtschaftlicher und politischer Probleme in der Sowjetunion in der Periode der Perestroika. Der Verfasser unterscheidet zwischen der von Reformeuphorie geprägten ersten Phase der Perestroika 1985 bis 1989 und den Krisenjahren 1989 bis 1991. Im Mittelpunkt des Interesses stehen die theoretischen und ideologischen Wurzeln der Perestroika, die zentralen Elemente und Konzepte der Perestroika- Politik, die Konsistenz in der Umsetzung der Reformpolitik, die Herausbildung sozialer Konflikte, die wirtschaftspolitischen Entscheidungen sowie mögliche Alternativen. Die Untersuchung endet mit dem fehlgeschlagenen Putsch vom August 1991 und dem nachfolgenden Zusammenbruch der UdSSR. (BIOst-Wpt)
