Content: "As the delivery of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) continues to expand internationally, so too must the literature available to support teaching. This volume showcases the research-informed work in this exciting and complex field, providing insights into EAP pedagogies employed in a diverse range of contexts. Drawing on the work of practitioners and practitioner-researchers, it responds to the repeated calls for a firmer link between theory, research and practice in language teaching, and provides a much-needed focus on pedagogy. From contexts where English is the principal dominant societal language or one of several official languages, to those where English-medium instruction (EMI) is common in higher education as an additional language for students and faculty, the chapters explore a range of geographical contexts, including Brazil, Canada, China, South Africa, UAE, the UK and the USA. Diversity is also represented in the range of types of EAP provision featured in this volume. Contributions focus on EAP for undergraduate and postgraduate students, from lower to advanced levels, before and during degree study, and in English for both general and specific academic purposes teaching, with discussion of consequences for on-going teacher education. Pedagogic responses and innovations to these varied contexts and needs are illustrated in the range of contributions, which provide insight into current practices in EAP globally."

Series Statement: CEU Medievalia ; 10
Content: The volume investigates the registers of fifteenth-century supplications to the Apostolic Penitentiary of the Holy See and presents an analysis of a multiplicity of issues in which a context of the local needs of Western Christians and the central power of the Pope occurred. The contributions make it clear that local and individual factors and the Christian faith and religion in practice must not be seen as separate from the global power of the Roman curia. The latter's influence could become directly important for any individual in any local space, even .et usque ad ultimum terrae (Acts 1:8), in the utmost peripheries of the Christian world. It is shown that the assistance of the Apostolic Penitentiary was indispensable in a large variety of cases. Such cases were dealt with both in the local, regional space and in the globalized centre of the Holy See.

Content: On the surface, PADME (Projet d'Appui au Developpement des Micro-Entreprises) is one of the most profitable African micro-finance institutions (MFIs) that report to the bulletin. Although this profitability is partly due to low cost funds and under-investment in management and operating systems, in the five years since its creation, PADME has built an efficient operation with solid growth in outreach. It serves predominantly women petty traders in two urban centers in Benin, with loans averaging US$400. PADME was created as a project in 1993 by the government of Benin, with funding from the World Bank. Initially, it was part of a broader initiative to offset the social effects of a structural adjustment package. The program's vision was to provide business credit to a broad base of clients, serving those who could not access traditional bank financing. PADME differs from many African institutions because it does not focus specifically on serving the very poor. In this respect, it more closely resembles many Latin American microfinance institutions.
