Der kanadische Biomechaniker und Wirbelsäulenexperte Professor McGill fügt mit vorliegendem Band der unüberschaubaren Ratgeberliteratur zur Volkskrankheit Rückenschmerzen eine weitere Variante hinzu. Er erhebt damit den Anspruch, unter dem Label "McGill-Methode" Strategien zur Selbstheilung aufzuzeigen und stützt sich dabei auf jahrzehntelange eigene Forschungen, klinische Studien und seinen Patientenaktenfundus. Der Ratgeber mit wissenschaftlichem Anspruch versteht sich weniger als schneller Problemlöser, sondern eher als Lotse durch das Dickicht von Ursachenverständnis, Ermittlung der Schmerzauslöser und des Weges zur schmerzfreien Bewegung in Gestalt eines progressiven Aufbautraining-Stufenplanes. Ein Glossar, eine Schmerz- und Aktivitätstabelle und ein Übungsplan runden die Darstellung ab. Allerdings leidet die Handhabbarkeit für den Rückenschmerzgeplagten durch die kärgliche Illustrierung und einen teilweise etwas akademischen Stil. Das "Rückenbuch" von Stiftung Warentest vom T. Heim (ID-A 9/16) oder auch "Den Rücken selbst heilen" von M. Marianowicz (ID-A 9/16) sind da leserfreundlicher. (2-3) Christiane Laubisch
