Nie war die Zahl diagnostizierter psychischer Erkrankungen höher als in der Gegenwart. Eine Ursache ist omnipräsenter Stress. Auslöser dafür liegen wiederum in der Überforderung des Menschen durch die allgegenwärtige Digitalisierung und Technisierung des Alltags. Trotz aller damit verbundenen Vorteile und Verbesserungen haben es die Risiken und Nachteile in sich. Die exzessive, suchtartige Techniknutzung – nicht allein durch Digital Natives – bewirkt eine seelische Überforderung. Sie hat unser ganzes „Dasein“ (Heidegger) umgestaltet. Lutz Meier nähert sich dem Thema Überforderung durch Technik zunächst philosophisch-essayistisch. In einem zweiten Schritt identifiziert er zwölf Faktoren, die auf Ebene der Gesellschaft als zusätzliche Störfaktoren der individuellen seelischen Gesundheit wirken. Besonderes Augenmerk legt er dabei auf die soziale Distanz und unser gestörtes Zeitempfinden (Chronotopos).
